How about a remake?

I think this story could make for a really good movie, but needs a better director and some better actors.

Any suggestions on who to get as director and to star in a remake?

Instead of a remake--how about one that sticks closer to the original epic story/poem?

A good director could have a lot of fun with the scenes where Gawain spends time as a guest in a lord's castle--especially the scenes where the lady of the castle attempts to seduce him.

Oh, wait, that's already been done in "Monty Python and the Holy Grail."

Never mind.

I actually loved this movie when I first saw it. But I was around seven at the time. I haven't seen it since and I think I'd rather avoid watching it again. Mainly becuase some movies you just remember being better than they really are. I remember loving Demons 2 at around the same time and I re-watched that recently. My god is that a bad movie. I think I'd rather keep this as a fond memory of my youth.

oopendorf, that is weird you said that about seeing it when you were seven. I remember seeing it a long time ago too and liking it. Now that I am grown (and a member of netflix) I had to see if it was as good as I remembered. Surprise surprise, twasn't.

As for a remake, I couldn't see anyone other than Tim Burton directing this, only he doesn't make "swords and amour" type fantasy flicks. There's always a first!
I don't see why Sean Connery couldn't reprise his role (hopefully sans the antlers). I could see Val Kilmer or Sean Bean making a good Gawain.

Actually, I think Terry Gilliam would be an absolutely fantastic director for a remake of this.

You can't remake this type of movie. Not enough people these days do the kind of drugs to "get it".
