Region 1 rerelease?

Anybody have any info on whether this will be rereleased in the near future? Blue Underground, perhaps?

reply

Yeah, good chance BU will pick the ball up here. Surprised it maintained such a high retail price -- about $30 -- before going OOP.

Yes thank god for Blue Underground! I picked this movie up at Best Buy for $12.99.

But now the million dollar question: Is the re-release anamorphic? Anchor Bay's was not, and if Blue Underground's is still standard letterbox, then that's a big fat lie on the back of the case, which lists '2.35:1/16x9'.

Edit: nevermind, I came to realize Anchor Bay's was indeed anamorphic. A couple reviews I read back in the day incorrectly stated it was non-anamorphic.

Most of the Anchor Bay and Blue Underground releases are the same as the companies are related. William Lustig who remastered these great Italian horror flicks for Anchor Bay went on to form his own company Blue Underground. So the OOP Anchor Bay DVDs are turning up again with Bule Underground. On occasion new material is added (ie. Zombie) but a lot of times they are the same.

Oh trust me I know, heh. I was one of those dudes who was telling people "Trust me they're identical!" when people were first asking about that first crop of Blue Underground Argento re-releases (Deep Red, Inferno, etc). Anyway, I had this mistaken notion from a few erroneous reviews back in the day that ABs NY Ripper disc was non-anamorphic, so when I saw that Blue U's was, I got real excited, but also thought this was very odd since all of BU's releases thus far had been straight ports. So I went back and researched only to find out a few days ago that AB's was anamorphic all along. Should have known, haha!

Don't you just love companies like Blue Underground and Shriek Show? So many great movies have finally found the light of day again!

Yup. Synapse and Code Red are great also. I think of Anchor Bay sort of as the granddaddy who showed them the ropes.
