What was so great about the ending?

I thought there would have been some kind of explanation why he was after those girls but maybe I missed something.

I prefer that there is no explanation. I think it works in this movie. Just the idea that he came across a group of girls having a slumber party is all the explanation I needed.

Probably a long backstory there.

Sometimes people in real life are just nutters, and stuff like this happens for no reason.

Not everybody has a Jason Vorhees-style backstory.
