Worst movie I have ever seen. Direction is bizarre, and the acting worse. I could at least laugh at Plan 9 From Outer Space

shareNonsense. Beautiful imagery and lovely music (angelic choruses in the port, Django Reinhardt style guitar music in the Brothel) make this film a pleasant joy to watch. Almost all of it takes place in the warm orange sunset of a stylised Brest (I think) harbour - stone walls with large penis-and-balls mooring pillars spaced along the top are a must-see. The narration is nice too - makes the whole affair seem like an adult version of Tugs. Or maybe thats just me. If you liked (visually at least) The City Of Lost Children or Naked Lunch (and I even felt there was a little Casablanca in there too) then give this a try. Lovely.
shareOne of the most consistant and beautifly art directed movies I've ever seen. A bit like Casablance on a hit of acid. Dark, hot, steamy. and sweaty. You can smell the testosterone at 50 paces. What's not to love????
shareYou've outlined what there is to love.
But you ask what's not to love:
The plodding pacing, redundant intertitles, dull narration, dull dialogue, and painfully bad fight sequences.
Yes, it occasionally had me at attention (admittedly a plus). But if that was its goal, it's not even mediocre porn.
What is so infuriating is that there is actually a great movie here, that was totally destroyed by the director.
I agree with you. It was a pretty bad movie. Only Brad Davis could act.
shareOh yeah cmarrero -1, how about this:
Franco Nero speaks into his tape recorder his feelings about Querelle "How ardently I desire Querelle to reveal himself to be a scoundrel
beneath the torrid surface. And he hide his feet to kiss his toes".
Franco Nero puts his hand oh his crotch and say's to himself: "From the time I fell in love with Querelle I've become less of a disciplinarian - my love makes me softer. The more I love Querelle the more gentle and (inaudible), the sadder
the woman in me becomes. Because she cannot achieve fulfullment".
This is great poetic writing and too sincere for a less capable actor than Nero. Sorry but the Master had to step in and do what the kids could not.
Oh Master Nero....anybody got an email addy or real fan club addy for him?
Querelle as bad as Plan 8 From Outer Space??? WTF! That's what I call a trollish comment!
Granted, Querelle is not amongst Fassbinder best films, but still it contains several mesmerizing sequences. Lots of directors would kill to at least shoot one scene that perfect in their mediocre careers (Bay, Ratner and the rest of Hollywood hacks knows what I am talking about).
BTW: I see no connection to Casablanca as some user suggested. IMO it has to do more with films like The Element of Crime, Wild at Heart or Mala Noche.
