I'm not sure if this was intentionally done, but there is a scene in the film where you see an illuminated rotating sign on top of a building that spells out the word "HOTEL" in all capital letters with certain parts of the lights burned out. At one particular angle, the reversed "HOTEL" with the incomplete lighting spells out "B-TCH." My sister pointed this out to me back in the 80s when the film was shown on MTV. She said it was a subliminal message but I've yet to see any confirmation on this.

I'm not sure, but would that really count as a subliminal message? It seems like a little hidden item to me, placed there for the viewer to possibly spot. Stanley Kubrick did that stuff all the time.

It was long ago and it was far away and it was so much better than it is today!

Perhaps "subliminal" is the wrong word...maybe "hidden" message? But I still don't know if the producers of the film actually intended for this to be captured or if it's coincidental. You can see the sign at 12:00....
