Basically what the other poster said. Everybody in Pink's life was trying to hammer him into something he wasn't. The Teacher was trying to hammer him into a proper, non-creative student. The Mother was trying to hammer him into a perpetual child who would always stay by her side even after he grew up. And the Wife...well, I guess she was trying to hammer him into a husband who actually loved and cared for her like she did for him. But we all know how that turned out.
