Grow a pair and watch it! Seriously, I don't think it's good for someone to allow themselves to continue to be afraid of something that scared them as a kid after growing into a logical adult. I think you'll feel a lot better saying instead, "my older cousin put this on when i was a child. Scared the living *beep* out of me, but I rewatched it recently, it wasn't so bad!"

This is the voice of experience talking, in my case it was my dumbass uncle! He was watching it with my dad, my dad stepped out to take a leak or grab a beer, something. An animated sequence comes on (the worst parts were the animated parts!!) so he calls me in, "Hey! A cartoon is on!"

I won't spoil the scene, since you haven't seen it, but the song Empty Space still gives me chills. The 'cartoon' associated with it gave 5 year old me nightmares for 2 weeks. But I rewatched as a teenager and loved the film!

Don't let illogical fear dictate your behavior!
