This might be one of the most depressing endings to a movie I've ever seen.
(That didn't involve animals, example Turner and Hootch).
Are there any other movie endings that can rival this straight through the heart ending? (again, without animals, because animals dying is easy to depress people with.)

sorry to be picky , but there's a big difference between a " depressing " ending , and a " straight through the heart " ending.
For example , " mary and max " contains one of those 'straight through the heart ' , without being depressing , but rather touching and uplifting.
I read a book one time that said they never seen a Hollywood ending this bad until 1995's Seven. wow, that's a long time... Hollywood took a chance specially the fact that it supposed to be a porkys type t and a sex comedy that all of a sudden turns into a drama in the last 20 mins.. never seen that before.. but it slid under the radar as that type of movie..
