Why it's good
Back in the day, I was really taken with this movie for three reasons.
1. Possibly the most depressing portrayal of an unrequited crush in the history of cinema.
2. The ending
3. The soundtrack
I agree and more. There was no happy ending. This movie actually went there and really portrayed teenage life as it really was. Zapped and Fast Times were good in their own way, but this film really spelt out what it meant to be a teenager ===chasing all the wrong signs, a certain amount of innocent homo play (locker room scene)and other facts of life.
