For those who have seen it......
How bad was it? Is it bad in an Ed Wood style, or bad as in a new miserable experience?

shareThe movie wasn't half bad in my opinion. Olivier's MacArthur is believable as long as you can tolerate his excessive make-up and there is plenty of good action scenes. My only gripe was the pacing which was choppy at best.
Other than that, the music was fantastic, the photography was well done and the special effects were very good for 1981. I wouldn't use this film in a history lesson, but if you have a Saturday afternoon to blow off, then this movie is perfect.

This movie is TERRIBLE.
"LSD, golly gee,
DDT, wowee!
Daddy's broke
Holy smoke
My future's bleak
Ain't it neat?"

The war action is quite spectacular and bloody. It's obvious plenty of money was spent there, and of course, it's all real aircraft and tanks in 1981. Turn off your brain for two hours and it works okay as a mindless action flick.
shareImagine a mixture of the worst traits of old-fashioned epic war movies like The Longest Day and mindless '80s action flicks like Commando. Add cringe-worthy dialogue, cheap special effects and Laurence Olivier in makeup that makes him look like a mummy with a toupee.
"I've never seen anyone look so *beep* ugly with just one head!"
Yeah, pretty much this. Plus it doesn't look like an '80s movie, more like an early seventies disaster flick.
