Why was Who Dares Wins retitled The Final Option in American?

shareAmericans didn't and still really really don't know about the SAS. So having a film titled after their famous motto would go nowhere. I saw the Final Option as a kid when it came out in the early 80s. I probably wouldn't have seen " Who Dares Wins ".
shareI agree with deluxe, plus also in US SpecOp circles it is just that, The Final Option, but usually one of the first options considered
shareAs the other guy said, "who dares wins" just doesn't have any context for Americans; it doesn't invoke anything except the basic meaning of the words, and given that it's kind of a clunky title for a movie. 'The Final Option' was definitely a better choice for export.
shareMaybe a better title would be: "Who Cares Who Wins"?

I do not know the answer, but I disagree with the views already expressed that "Who Dares Wins" does not mean a thing to U.S. citizens. It is a powerful, command motto to have in mind in a difficult situation, wherever you were born, and whomever you are.
I did not know that was a coined phrase in usage by the Special Action Service personnel, and yet I thought it was a great title for an action movie even before getting information about the film.
I suggest it could have something to do with a similar title already «taken» by a television series...
