I remember when this came out and it got awful reviews and was seen as a political film,supporting the right of centre political viewpoint.

At the time I did not go to see it and did not like it much when I saw it on tv.

But despite it looking cheap and really just being a bigger budget version of THE PROFESSIONALS tv series it is fun to watch as almost a historical document.

We now know that CND did get some finance from the eastern bloc and that far left groups got money from Libya,so while the film seemed a bit over the top at the time the plot seems more realistic now?

The script is stil poor however and overall it is not as good as the best PROFESSIONALS episodes but it is not as bad as many people say.

It made a nice change to have an action film glorifying British soldiers.

If that's controversial it's only because the lefties deem it so

They don't seem to mind films that sympathize with the IRA though

Was it a millionaire who said "Imagine no possessions"?

Not really because CND protestors are peaceniks.

They don't seem to mind films that sympathize with the IRA though

The usual right-wing *beep* claim that is thrown around on boards for movies like this. The IRA are usually portrayed as faulted and wrong in UK movies. If people have sympathies for them it is not because most people support their actions but because the UK did actually conquer Ireland and stole a piece of Ireland even after promising to grant Ireland its freedom. The people of Ireland voted for an independent Ireland, not for the creation of an independent Eire and Northern Ireland, yet the UK created Northern Ireland anyway.

Tbh I suspect the many terrorist acts committed by West Germany's infamous Red Army Faction was likely a greater inspiration when conceiving the film's villains than the likes of CND, as the former's atrocities arguably legitimises portraying a far left group as terrorists.
