The opening credits have this ominous music and vibe that make it feel like a horror film
shareWell that's basic drama technique. Create suspense by contrast and subversion of expectations. How boring would it be with jolly and cheerful music. Williams did this even more with Close Encounters. The entire first half of the movie hast dark, haunting atonal horror music during the first encounters. We're supposed to expect the worst.
