Scene with the mom and the Halloween candles....
Anybody ever thought about the meaning behind this scene? Obviously, I understand that Mary is sitting in the living room looking at the clock, angry/worried that the kids aren't home since it's dark out and she told them to be back earlier. I just always found her out the candles to be an interesting direction. I've read the original screenplay and the scene isn't like this. In the script, she's sitting on the porch before she decides to get in the car and go find the kids. It's interesting how she blows out the candles, almost "ritualistic" and especially how she just sort of taps the one with her magic wand prop from her costume until she bangs it out. I wonder if there was supposed to be some sort of symbolism in that. The way the candles are all lit on the table almost look religious.
