Not a fan of movie sequels, but...
There’s something intriguing about ET returning to visit a 42 year-old Elliott and his family. Could be fun...

Has this been announced? I'm on board as long as they use 100% animatronic e.t. Like the original version.
shareI don't think it's been announced, but it does sound like a good idea to me. Perhaps E.T. needs some help or something, and Elliott is the only person he feels he can trust.
But you know, there's exactly a 0% chance that E.T. would be fully animatronic if a sequel was made now.
I'm actually totally good with sequels. It's prequels I can't stand!
Better do it now, while all of the principle players are still around. I always felt that Elliott should have gone with E.T., even though it would have been a tough choice.
My own parents split, a year and a half before this film was released, and there were certainly times that I wanted to escape the reality of my life. It might be a first-world problem but divorce can permanently scar a child in a way few other things can. It's probably the sole reason why I immersed myself in films, video games, books, etc...
I'd love to see a sequel.

I can't think of any film that needs a sequel less than E.T.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Some movies should be left alone
No. The movie is about childhood, not an alien. Ask Steven S., he'll tell you the same.
If I don't reply, you're most likely on my ignore list
No sequel. The ending pretty much concluded E.T. and Elliot's story perfect so there's no reason to carry it on.
And yes, I would see a sequel if one was ever made, so I am a hypocrite, but come one, a new E.T. movie? I'd be first in line for that!

Actually, I was re-reading an old copy of Starlog from October 1982, and Spielberg definitively claimed to have plans for a sequel. He was quoted in the interview as saying, "I was always planning a sequel. There are many more stories to be explored. I wouldn't want to let down a number of people who would have my hide if I didn't do a sequel. This is one case where I wouldn't be criticized for doing one. This is a case where I would be lambasted if I don't. I'm not going to officially announce it for a while because I'm enjoying the success of E.T. too much to even think about it... I would be dishonest if I didn't say that Melissa Mathison and I know what's going to happen next. I changed the original title of the movie because it was originally called E.T.: The Extraterrestrial in his First Adventure on Earth. About a month before the poster was to be printed, I chopped out the word 'first.'"
I wonder what happened to so completely derail his plans.
There's also a book floating around which is definitely a sequel.
E.T. and the Green Planet, I think is what it's called.
