Corn Field?

How does their house have a corn field in the middle of suburbia when no other homes do. Am I missing something?

Good question. I think they were simply growing corn in their backyard, which isn't as uncommon as you would think. I've had lots of neighbors here in the suburbs that grow corn, in addition to other fruits and vegetables.

Yeah, that's certainly possible DarthSil. My feeling seeing it as an adult was that their plat/development was seen to be new/still growing, and maybe it was sort of butting up against what had before been nothing but farmland. I've seen it numerous places where new such developments are built.

We did when I was growing up. The neighborhood was built on a farm that was sold to developers but there was still other working farms surrounding it. I would say most suburbs were built that way as people expanded out into the surrounding area from cities.
