Elliot did great, but he looked so young for his age...

The actor who played Elliot looked so young in this for his age, it turns out he was 10 or 11 when they filmed it. I thought he was like 6,7 or 8. Why do directors always seem to pick young actors that appear younger than their actual age? I assume they pick them because the higher maturity contrary to the look of their age helps with the acting.

Filming officially started the day before Henry's 10th birthday. My opinion, but I thought he looked and acted every bit of 10 years of age, which is the age of the character.

What I think happens far too often in Hollywood movies is they get a child actor to portray a character who is a good bit younger than the actor. The result is a character who is supposed to be 7 or 8 years old and coming off as too precocious because the actor is significantly older and more mature.

"Well, can't he just beam up?"
"This is *reality* Greg."

I dunno, he seemed like a normal goofy 10 year old kid to me.

He did strike me as very youthful in appearance.

We just watched with my kids. I am 34 and my son is 10 now. He is the same size as Elliot. He is very little framed. His sister is 7 and they are not that far apart in size. It is common for boys this age though. They will hit a growth spurt soon though at 11-12 then again a big one at 14-16 during puberty.
