Was that Cuesta Verde?
Looked like the same housing development from Poltergeist.
shareNo. The house featured in E.T. is located in Tujunga Canyon which is east of Simi Valley, where Poltergeist was filmed. My guess is that the housing developments and terrain are fairly similar looking in both areas.
"Well, can't he just beam up?"
"This is *reality* Greg."
Those tile-roofs are ubiquitous in that area. It's kinda hard to think that wasn't on Spielberg's mind when he moved on to Poltergeist.

Guys, come on! Can't we have one poker night without a hate crime?
I thought the same thing. Those housing tracts in California all look the same don't they?
Would have been nice to have E.T.'s house next to the Poltergeist house though.

That would've been some neighborhood!
"What'd you do this weekend?"
"Met an alien. Dodged the Feds and got him back to his mother ship. You?"
"Ahhh, our house was haunted. TV tried to eat my little sister. What about you, Tommy?"
"We, uh, played some Atari and had spaghetti."

I kinda thought that too! The other poster shot that down, but it does resemble the place from Poltergeist!
shareI knew a girl who swore it was the same house in both movies. LOL
shareNah. The stairs are different.

I've always tried to decide which of the two houses I would want to live in more. It's a very hard decision. The E.T. house is more upper middle class and larger, but the Poltergeist house has some awesome features like that windy staircase and the exterior is really unique. The E.T. house also has that awesome walkthrough closet, though, which I also loved. And the kitchen was huge and nice.
