That scene in the bus when kids are throwing stuff and Mike is just sitting, almost in deep thought, made me wonder if E.T. also got into his mind as well.

Hadn't noticed that before, but as far as I know there's never any indication that E.T. has a "psychic" connection with anyone other than Elliot. I believe that connection (between Elliot and E.T.) is supposed to be unique and special.

I didn't quite get that from this scene. I think Michael was simply thinking about the situation he was in with E.T. living in their house.

I take it aaa he would normally be participating in all the immature commotion on the bus, but he is now a little bit more grown up based on what he is experiencing at home. He is deeply pondering his situation.
