Elliot should have gone with E.T. on his spaceship

I just watched E.T. for the first time and really enjoyed it, especially the atmosphere. In the film's closing minutes, E.T. asks Elliot to join him on his spaceship. Now I know that ending the film like that would have been extremely odd, albeit awesome. I still feel the pros outweighs the cons and Elliot should have at least considered the notion.

Pros:

- Elliot gets to be the first human to accompany aliens back to their world, wherever that may be. Since E.T. seems to have lungs, breathe oxygen, and share many other human characteristics then Elliot wouldn't be taking such a huge risk as far as adaptability goes.

- E.T. and his peers know where earth is and could presumably return at any time with Elliot

- Elliot could learn all sorts of new fun technology

- Elliot and E.T. could continue their friendship

Cons:

- Elliot would miss his friends and family

- Elliot may never return because something could go terribly wrong

- In space, no one can hear you scream

Can anyone think of any more Pros or Cons to add, I'm sure I'm forgetting something!

IDK if Cocoon was already out at the time, but it was already a movie where ppl go with the aliens.

Elliot is just a kid, parents wouldn't like watching a movie where their kids fly away with aliens, it would have bad repercusion.

But yes, ET seems to love life and would do anything needed to keep Elliot safe. He going as a kid would be an opportunity to learn new tech and culture, and he could always come back.

There's lots of pros and cons to this. But the most important part about this (apart from the fact that Elliot would be away from his loved ones), is the ending simply works best with the kid and his extraterrestrial pal saying goodbye to each other. It leaves a greater impact.
