Guillermo Del Toro?
If they are ever going to make a remake of this film, Del Toro would pull it off nicely!

Hack job?
Whilst I agree that a remake of this film is not needed I think your comments about his films being 'hackjobs' are not only misplaced but also make you look like a fool.

No, he wouldn't. he has nowhere near the talent or imagination that Jim Henson did. If he did remake it, which would be one of the most unnecessary remakes in history, it would be a hackjob just like most, if not all, of his films.
Those films are aesthetically awful! And,besides, who needs a remake? It´s the most wonderful film ever,we don´t need horrible CGI...
shareNow, if by aesthetically awful, you mean expertly crafted and aesthetically pleasing, then sure, they're "awful."
Plus, I don't think Dark Crystal needs a remake, I was just saying if it was to happen, del Toro would be an optimal choice. And to say his films are just "Horrible CGI" is ludicrous.

No,that´s right...They are poor make-up,too.
shareApparently they are making a sequal called The Power of the Dark Crystal (2011).
shareSo it seems, but that guy it´s not going to direct it,thank God!
shareI know it's a sequel, and I know del Toro isn't writing or directing it...but do you even see who IS? Who they have attached to it is what worries me...and the story idea for a sequel might not be fitting if they decide to bring the Skeksis back...You're not worried?
Anyways, about this thread, I have to call bullsh!t on the person who call del Toro's films "bad films"...Devil's Backbone, Pan's Labryinth (especially), Hellboy 1 (I have to come clean and say I didn't very much like the second installment, shame on del Toro for wasting good artistic talent on a MIB rip-off!).
I was actually thinking the same thing if they're doing the sequel (NO *beep* REMAKES TO THIS ORIGINAL SHALL EVER BE!!!) I would have to think del Toro has vision and has a good touch on the fantasy genre, but then again if it were up to him on the design of it all...that's the only thing that'll bother me. CGI I can accept for background but not over everything else. Puppetry HAS to be a priority no matter what, and HAS to include Brian Froud. If the two of them decided to work together? That would be a sold movie right there! But it is but a dream...

This film is a fantasy masterpiece and it should never be remade...EVER!!!
shareHe wouldn't camp it up like Tim Burton, but Del Toro uses very "warm" lighting.
eg. Pan's Labyrinth and Devil's Backbone are nothing like the psychedelic atmosphere of Dark Crystal.
My choice would be horror director Dario Argento, but with a bigger budget for special effects than his usual films.
