VHS differences

I noticed the VHS has a different background during the end credits (http://youtu.be/8HsIfxVP2E8). Why would this be? Also, are there any other changes to the film?

Nope, only for the Thorn Emi release and the 1994 Disney re-issue as i remembered when i was 13 when i got that for Christmas was the theatrical end credits.

No changes.

Do a YouTube search for 'Dark Crystal 1984 vhs opening' for the opening with the decorated bars at the top and bottom of the screen. That's how I will always remember this movie. I found a Vhs rental and had it converted to dvd for it. Muppetwiki can tell you more about this. On my phone right now, so I'm sorry for not providing any links!

The whole movie was cropped. I think the lettering was too small for the bad VHS resolution.

They were covering up the black letterbox bars. The original version was just a still of the last shot of the film.

There have been some other subtle differences on different editions. The 1999 DVD has the theatrical end credits, but there is a weird edit in the music where a section of it is replaced with another section from later in the cue (although on the isolated score track, the credits music plays out like the theatrical version). Not sure of the reason for that.

The 2007 DVD and 2009 Blu-ray have the credits music restored to its original version, but there are also extra bits of dialogue sprinkled throughout that were never in the movie before.

My guess on that is that these lines were dialed out in the final mix back in 1982, but somehow ended up on the dialogue stem or whatever element that was used for the 2007 remix, so now they're suddenly back in the movie again (and I don't think they're supposed to be).
