About one of the goofs... (Spoilers)

I was looking through the goofs for this movie (as I do for all my favorite movies ) and I saw one goof about "They're Creeping Up on You." The goof basically says that Upston squashes a cockroach with his hand and he pulls his hand back up, but there's no cockroach remains on it. I thought about this goof and I think there's something more to it, but I'm not sure. I personally think that it isn't a goof for two reasons: 1) He looked like he had a reaction to his hand being clean. 2) At one point, the cockroaches vanish from his room entirely, implying that he could have been hallucinating. This theory made sense for the most part of the story. Upston could have very well just been hallucinating and experiencing hysteria because of his phobia for bugs inside his room. Yet in the end, Upston is dead inside his little room and cockroaches begin crawling out of his body, implying that it probably was all real. Any other opinions?

I've got a jar of dirt! I've got a jar of dirt! And guess what's inside it!

My opinion is, it's Creepshow.
It's not mean to "make sense".

The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he is God.

Scene used to confuse me, probably a goof. But maybe it was like CAT FROM HELL in TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE: THE MOVIE. He hates bugs, kills them constantly, then suddenly supernatural coackroaches show up to kill him to avenge others. Dumb I know.

It's definitely a metaphor for all of the "little people" he killed to get where he was in life. He saw them all as bugs/vermin, so they came back as bugs/vermin to get their revenge. Pretty simple story when you think about it.

I agree. I already sent the correction to the IMDB "headquarters" for revision, actually before I saw your post. I'm glad I wasn't the only one who noticed it. I thought the roaches were his imagination the whole time.

That scene made me think the cockroaches was supernatural in nature. A curse or spell from the wife of the guy that killed himself.

I don't think the wife had anything to do with it per se, but I think her phone call at the end made a nice little ironic accompaniment to the scene. The way she says I HOPE YOU DIIIIIIIE - it's like she means it with every fiber of her being. I love it!

I think they start out as a paranoid hallucination, but then gradually become real. His mind is creating them.

reply

Keep in mind, even within the context of the film itself, this and the other four segments are really just stories in a comic book, so it doesn't have to make total sense.

A guy who dresses up like a bat clearly has issues.

I think it's possible he had a slight roach problem, but he hallucinated the rest of them. He may have a had a heart attack thinking they were there.
