Does anyone else feel sorry her? I know she killed old Nathan and all, but he really did deserve it. She put up with so many years of his abuse, including the murder of her lover, plus she took care of him when he got old. I think all the years of mental abuse just caused her to snap. And I always feel sorry for her when she's talking to the grave. Viveca Lindfors did a great job with this small part.
I agree with the OP. Nathan was a bad man who had earned his wealth through ill-gotten gains and mentally abused his wife and daughter. The only good thing about him is that he atleast included his family in his will and left them his money, even though he though he called them vultures.
I feel worse for Mrs. Danvers and Hank. All the members of the family were targeted for a reason, revenge. Either for killing Nathan, or taking their share of his fortune after his murder, no questions asked. Mrs. Danvers and Hank weren't involved, they were just innocent bystanders. Although maybe there's more to Hank than the story tells. I always thought there was something strange about him, and the fact he married a pretty vacuous (albeit attractive) woman, called a harlot by her own aunt (and Hank didn't seem too surprised), who just so happened to have inherited a large sum of money.
See you guys at the 10 year prison reunion - Ben Richards
Yes Mrs. Danvers was in the kitchen when Bedelia whacked her father over the head. She witnessed the whole thing.
I always felt bad for Aunt Bedelia as well. She had an over bearing, jealous, and neurotic father who killed her boyfriend. Father's Day is the one revenge story I don't think worked over all. Cass, Richard, and Silvia were all greedy and insensitive, but Bedelia was just broken by what her father did. And Hank certainly didn't deserve to die. He was an innocent bystander marrying into a really screwed up dysfunctional family.
The whole reason why I came to this message board was to create a similar thread. That piece of crap Nathan got what he deserves yet HE'S the one who gets to come back and have revenge...screw that! This who story segment was garbage
Yes, I do. She had to undergo years and years of verbal abuse and was probably told what a bad, awful, terrible person she was by her father each and every day. You can only take things like that for so long before it really begins to hurt you. It said that after her father had a stroke she basically gave up her whole life to care for him and the thanks she got was being constantly insulted so I don't blame her for hating her father. He also killed her lover. He probably should've been the one getting just desserts instead of Bedelia but I still love the film anyways.
The whole outlook on murder due to abuse needs to be changed in court/law. No matter how much abuse there is, you 100% should NOT be able to kill someone. Leave the person. And don't give me crap about it being so hard, who cares, you can't KILL someone because you're scared to leave.
