Was Mr Pratt really that bad of a guy?
Liberals may think so and this story was designed to make rich people look bad and give us a joy that the rich guy got his in the end.
Mr. Pratt stated he grew up in Hell's Kitchen poor and managed to become a very wealthy person. That alone is worth something. He had a mental disorder for cleanliness which was likely traced back to his childhood. He was successful and was likely done wrong by a lot of people, creating trust issues.
Yes he was a prick, but he was a prick that got things done. You don't get that kind of power being a nice guy. Taking over a company does not make you a bad person. It's business. He likely created many more jobs with his wealth and overall made the city and country richer with his wealth as well. Even with massive tax breaks, he likely paid more taxes than hundreds of Americans.
He had a disgust for the general population and the dump New York City was in the early 80s I don't blame him. He seemed like he had low tolerance for incompetence. I mean I would be upset too if my building managers failed to address a roach problem. Honestly I've met people much worst that Mr. Pratt. I actually felt sorry for him, old, all alone, with all that money and no one he could trust.
