I can only express puzzlement, that borders on alarm. - Douglas Klump
It wasn't that unusual in the late 70's for punks to wear the swastika, actually I have seen punk t-shirts (ironically enough sold by immigrants)sold at the Camden lock in London, with the swastika. As far as I have Understood it is/was used as a provocation only by most punks, but of course some is actually into the neo Nazi thing. In this movie the punk gang was clearly rivals of a black gang, so it supports both reasons. It could also simply be a fashion thing.
Sid vicious of the sex pistols, and Wattie of the Exploited are (well, Sid WAS) well known for wearing the swastika at their concerts. It is in general a misunderstanding that there is a such thing as a "reverse" swastika. It has the same meaning. The swastika was simply a symbol for the sun before hitler and the 2ND world war. the SS symbol were Rune letters, etc.
Unfortunately the whole swastika thing was misunderstood and it spawned the oi scene, which wasn't right wing at first. Then some dumb *beep* considered it an art of confusing their love for their country with right wing nationalism, which in fact spawned the right wing oi movement, born of retards and wannabe racial purists. And in no time every oi-fan with a shaven head was considered a right-wing extremist. Damn right-wing skinheads invaded a culture and claimed it as their own and now they play punk music with ridiculous lyrics. What a bunch of retarded hypocrites, they are part of the things they hate. How can somebody like that consider himself pure?
The Oi!thing was right-wing from the beginning, spare us the 'invasion of a culture'myth.the Sham army was almost 100% NF skinheads and this was before Skrewdriver became openly Nazi.Punks wore Swazis to offend and shock people this was common(at least in the USA) until the early 1980s,their were however actual Nazipunk gangs as well,so considering the time period the movie was made, its pretty accurate.
