NOOOOOOOOOOO! NOT A REMAKE!
First!
so much money, so little time
I'm not particularly excited about a remake either. However, the film bares very little resemblance to the play on which it was based or the real-life story on which the play was based. A lot of people hate the film because of that (particularly the play's writer, Larry L. King, who was quite vocally against the 1982 film before it was even released).
And at the very least, here's hoping the remake prompts Universal to put out a special edition with alternate footage from the TV prints and a new retrospective. Of course, this is Universal I'm talking about, so I'm not holding my breath, but it'd be nice.

I'd like to see a remake more faithful to the play myself. OR, if that can't happen, one actually set in 1973 with clothes and sets reminiscent of that time instead of the 80s look we got with this film.
