The real story?

I've been reading up on the story this is based on, but Wikipedia isn't giving me much useful information. I found an article on the website of the local station that started all of it, but it seems a little biased toward Marvin Zigler, the inspiration for Melvin P. Thorpe.

Where else can I go?

The Chicken Ranch was indeed a brothel in La Grange, Texas. There was a lesser known second brothel in Sealy in neighboring Austin County.

Wow, thank you.
Hmm, according to the article from the news station, Zindler was asked by someone from the state to close it over a grudge they had, so you can't totally blame him, I guess.

Thanks very much for the links to La Grange/Chicken Ranch sites! I'm a native Texan, and even took "the long way" between Austin and Houston one time through the town, looking for the place...that was in '94, and I couldn't find a thing, or have anyone hanging around town tell me where to look!

Who'da thought, I'd find more on the IMDB than on Wikipedia (and I looked there, too)?! Thanks again.

My husband and I did the same thing a few years ago. We asked around and found out that they tore the house down, so there is nothing to see.

If you're interested, here are some additional links with actual photos of the place.

There's a similar link in a previous post, but it doesn't work, that one does though.

I went to high school not far from La grange and I remember one of my teachers (who taught at where she had gone to high school) talking about driving by it when she was in high school...she said it looked NOTHING like in the movie.
