Favorite song?
There's not one piece of musical filler in this excellent film, but I have to say the beautiful "Hard Candy Christmas" always chokes me up. What's your favorite "Whorehouse" song?

share"Hard Candy Christmas", but they changed it for the soundtrack album to feature more of Dolly Parton and less of the backing singers.
Unforgiveable, really, and it was the only song they messed with.
i agree completely. I really loved hearing all the girls voices saying what they might do for "hard candy christmas" and then dolly singing the chorus. It made sense since she was their "mother". I also really like "Sneaking Around"...its adorable...this movie makes me love Dolly
---quality is dying---
Totally agree! I bought what I thought was going to be the actual musical soundtrack from the movie only to find out none of the songs were taken directly from the movie. What a let-down; that CD doesn't get played much at all.
WHY DO THEY DO THAT??
Sidestep by Chales Durning, wonderful little ditty, nice jokes and a surperb performance by Charles Durning. Nominated for an Oscar for such a short screen role has to be applauded, up there with Madeline Khan in Blazing Saddles.
The Aggie Song is my favorite because of the choreography and because I'm gay lol!
I also really love "Hard Candy Christmas" for its emotional impact; and the sense of play, and energetic Charles Durning performance of "Sidestep".
But by far The Aggie Song is my favorite. Even today years later, it still stirs those first few yearnings of a lustful youth!!
"the best that you can do is fall in love"
Definitely Hard Candy Christmas, closely followed by I Will Always Love You. I'm always in floods of tears from when the girls leave to when Ed goes back for Mona. On a more upbeat note i do think Texas Has A Whorehouse In It is very catchy.
shareI adore "The Aggie Song"
-and-
"Best Little Whorehouse in Texas"

my favorite is the rare "Where Stallions Run" which Burt sings after he and Mona fight. God, how I wish the recording would have been included on the soundtrack! Luckily I held on to that old videotape recorded from television back in the 80's....... My favorite Dolly song is "A Lil' Bitty Pissant Country Place" - just cracks me up. And Dom Deluise's "Texas Has a Whorehouse In It" is AWESOME!
shareI agree, "Where Stallions Run" is a great song. I also like "Hard Candy Christmas", "I Will Always Love You', and "Lil' Bitty Pissant Country Place". Those are the best songs in the movie.
sharethe bit when that random jock guy starts sing "one more mile until we get to heaven " or what ever crascks me up .. but i cant get that bit in the song that i downloaded .
I'll come to thee by moonlight, though Hell should bar the way!
'The Bus from Amarillo'
ooops! that brought the house down on Broadway, everyone was crying!
replaced with "I will always love you' that Dolly re-released...not a bad song, I like it, but it didn't belong in this show!
second choice: Hard Candy Christmas!
I just love the Aggies but mainly for the dancing. Hard Candy Christmas is my favorite. However, "I will always love you" is a classic, wayyyy before Whitney Houston butchered it.
shareI like the Aggie dancing bit too, and 'I Will Always Love You' is one of my favorite Dolly songs, but for me I think my favorite is the governor's 'Oh I Love to Do the Side Step' That song ALWAYS puts a smile on my face. That was a great bit. Then again, there ain't a bad song in the entire movie in my opinion. I wish I had heard the Stallion song, I don't know it.

OMG someone who agrees with me about Whiny Houston! I remember when she won the Grammy for her recording of that song...the drugged out bitch didn't even have the grace to thank Dolly for writing it! She thanked everyone else in the known universe...but not the author of that amazingly beautiful song.
shareWhipme Houston's version of that song is a national disgrace. I liked her in the '80s, but now she just overdoes it in the style of Pariah Carey. Her cover of "I Will Always Love You" was so calculated and pretentious as to have no soul whatsoever. Dolly sang it from the heart, while Whitney sang from the diaphragm. Dolly's version made me feel loved, whereas Whitney's made me feel stalked.
shareWhen Dolly was announced for the film version in 1981 I bought the original cast album to hear the songs in advance and I loved several of them that didn't make it to the movie, most especially "The Bus From Amarillo". "Doatsy Mae" is another sensational one.
"Hard Candy Christmas" is great but I prefer Dolly singing it as a solo as on record unlike the film where it's sung by all the "girls" and her. The lyrics are clearly one person having a very bad time in their life; it doesn't work as well having multiple people sing a line here and there, kind of downplays the personal depression of the lyrics.
I must be the only one on here that loves this song but damnit I do... Side Step... I FREAKIN love that song... ooooooooh I love to dance a little side step... I just think that song is so funny because it shows that the Gov. is an idiot :D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7mNDHTfdn1A
The Rednekz : Southern Rebels By The Grace Of God!
"Side Step" is a very clever song with some fancy footwork by Charles Durning! That song is truer now than it was in the '80s. I'm surprised candidates don't adopt that song for their campaign ads today.
shareI liked all the songs except "Sneakin' Around" and "Where Stallions Run". Those were the ones Burt Reynolds attempted to sing.
