They had decaying heads/faces, but their bodies were young. What is with that? Also, even after 2 of them were killed, all of their hands appeared around the top of the cauldron. Did the last witch die, or did she turn into a bird anf fly away?

Also, witches, especially transforming ones, are notoriously hard to kill! They can appear to die, only to come back again and again, or to run away as something small like a lizard or rabbit and then transform back into a human once out of danger. Notice that the first witch laughed *after* Dar's new father killed her.
