Was it just me, or was naming the ferrets Cheech and Chong kinda a bad idea? I know The Beastmaster isn't the best movie in the world already, but naming them Cheech and Chong completely takes you out of the movie. I think making such an obvious homage to Cheech and Chong was completely unnecessary in this type of movie.

Yeah Future, I know exactly what you mean. I mean, then again, they made a sequel, and a third, and a tv series of it, and sure he goes through time, but christ man, naming the ferret's cheech and chong always bugged the hell out of me. Then again, whenever Chong dies, i always get a little misty-eyed.

I just watched it on cable last night, and all of you are wrong...........in the version I watched, the ferrets were named Heckle and Jekyll...........Seriously, what have all of you been smoking? No wonder you hear Cheech and Chong everywhere you go...................
Obviously there is more than one version of this movie. I have seen Beastmaster over 100 times since I was completely in love with Marc Singer lol and it has always been Kodo and Podo. I have seen it on HBO and on various cable channels throughout the years, all were Kodo and Podo. So common sense would tell me there has to be other copies perhaps in different language or whatever that have them as Cheech and chong or whatever. I assure you thetallcooll, I do NOT smoke, or drink. Just out of curiousity, where do you live? I am in Texas lol.

It's funny this should come up because I could've sworn their names were Crockett and Tubbs. This was the Canadian version I saw though so maybe that had something to do with it. I also heard a rumor that on some newer DVD copies they're called Mary-Kate and Ashley.

ancient thread, I know, but I just watched this (again) last night, reliving my youth...and I was shocked at the way the animal "actors" were treated in the making of this film. The ferret was nearly drowned in the quicksand and was clearly distressed even if it wasn't physically harmed...Marc Singer (or his stunt double) jumped onto a horse and knocked it over sideways, which can easily break its bones...we all know the tiger ultimately dies from some mistake in its care...and I don't even want to know how they got the white dog to be so floppy when he carried it after it supposedly "died". No dog can be trained to relax ALL its muscles when you carry it like that.
The 80's sure were a different time when it comes to animals in the movies. I don't miss it.
