So this is what the simpsons spoofed off of?
I remember there was a halloween special about bart having a twin brother who wanted them to become sewn together.
shareI remember there was a halloween special about bart having a twin brother who wanted them to become sewn together.
shareI think it is.
shareIn issue 4 of the Treehouse of Horror Simpsons Comics series, there is a short 3 page story near the back entitled "Basket Bawl" which features Bart and Milhouse speculating "What's in the basket?" that Groundskeeper willy keeps on his shoulder and wondering if it hides a second, evil head. It turns out to be Principal Skinner who has the second head :P
I preferred the Simpsons piss take of Child's Play, with a toupee instead of a child's doll and the awesome shot-by-shot recreation of Chucky's dead from Child's Play, which actually makes it impossible for me to watch CP without thinking how long and drawn out that death is, even for a slasher villain.
I read somewhere that the Treehouse of horror episode you refer to was spoofing something else more directly, but you're probably right. There was a Simpsons comic (I know, I know) story, I think in one of their Halloween issues, that had a story called BASKET CASE and had Principal Skinner carrying a wicker basket on his shoulder, actually covering a siamese head or something. More details when I find it.
shareSouth park also sort of spoofs it. At the end of the Aspen ski trip episode, the nerdy chick who likes stan flashes her boobs which look exactly like 2 basket cases. I found it hilarious but I doubt many people got the joke.

since total recall is based on a story by Philip K. Dick i'm sure he wrote it long before basket case came out.

Yup.. the "Asspen" episode was clearly referencing Kuato and "Total Recall" because at the very end when she lifts her shirt the twin (or whatever) says "Quaid... start the reactor", directly a line from the film. LOL.. Loved that episode, a great one that I think is underrated. But clearly a love letter to the 80s era of films.
shareI like the Simpsons Treehouse episode where they are sending up King Kong with Homer as the ape.
You see Mr. Burns and Smithers as the ship's captain and first mate.
Burns goes; "What do you, first mate Smithers? Should we let a female into our crew?"
Smithers replies; "I don't think women and Sea Men mix, sir."
Burns shouts: "WE ALL KNOW WHAT YOU THINK!"
lol...
