Ok i don't want to sound ignorant, this is question about the first movie as well as this movie, what causes the blood to come out of the walls and stairs? Where is it all coming from? the spirits?

Originally when the Lutzes went public, it was a black tarlike substance coming out of the keyholes in doors. In the original Jay Anson novel, it was green slime, almost like Jello. In the 1979 movie, it was changed to red blood.
