Naughty siblings!

You guys didn't see the incest coming? I felt like I was watching another VC Andrews-based movie.

I was not shocked because Trish was draped all over Sonny like a cheap suit through most of the movie. And the way he kept looking at her? ick?

Me thinks something romantic was happening behind the scenes between the two actors because their chemistry went beyond the scripted incest.Neither of them looked convincingly grossed out by the notion that they were being taboo.

and don't get me started on the sexual innuendo with the Trish-killing.

reply

Agreed!

I didn't think about the offscreen chemistry between the two until you mentioned it. Early in the film they seemed too close for comfort, and about midway through during the incest scene I thought that the earlier "too close for bro-sis relationship" scenes were build-up to help explain why Patricia would disrobe for her brother??

I mean, Patricia posed fully nude for her brother because he asked her to do it, "just for a second"??? If you ask me, that needed a little explanation.......so I think maybe the director asked the two actors to be touchy feely in the earlier scenes to help explain that they were a "close" family to begin with.
That maybe led to some offscreen hanky panky, and it showed through in the performances....

This is what I like about A2, they tackle real life issues other horror flicks are too afraid of: incest, child abuse, wife abuse and the inner demon.

This is a horror movie in more ways than one.

Do the brother and sister really "do it" because I saw A2 on a local channel so they must have cut that out of the movie, but they really "do it?"

reply

they sure did. which is why later she tells him she isn't ashamed and he shouldn't be either.

reply

One thing I found weird about them having sex was how she just let him go along with it, I mean yeah he was pretty hot but still he is her brother, and she didn't seem like she wanted it to stop. And also if I had a brother I don't think I would get naked for him. So I think yawl have a point about the whole sibling closeness.

Hi,
I agree with siklife, it was just a movie, a fictitious movie. It was suppose to be a prequel (is that a word? lol), to The Amityville Horror.
Yeah, it was a lot like VC Andrews- Flowers in the Attic- saga. Wish they would make a real movie based on the Defeo murders.
And LOGAN5, you crack me up, lol!

that part when Sonny seduced his sister was disturbing!

reply

I completely agree. In the first scence between those two where they "got to know the house" I actually turned to my boyfriend and asked, "Why are they flirting with each other?".

Ok, they were maybe supposed to be a close family, possibly - one could theorise - because the father was a domineering b**tard (not that that was particularly well executed either), but it did not come across, it came across that they were flirting with each other. The banter could have been more insulting to each other... gah, I don't have any siblings, but generally at that age, my friends were never really nice to their brothers or sisters, despite how close the family was in general.

If you ask me, Trish was completely up for it. Maybe the house told her it was a good idea, but we never saw any evidence of that (and I don't think that is actually the case). I had no sympathy for anyone in this story. I was cheering on the house.

I think the incest storyline was separate from the demonic possession. I think they just got caught up in the moment. It happens sometimes.

when i was little and i saw this film i thought it was about 2 couples living in a house together with their 2 young children.

reply

Oh yes, I definitely saw the incest scene coming. All Tricia had to do was "fall" on Sonny then grab his arm and seductively purr, "Come on, let's get to know the house" and I was like, here we go. I so agree with you: Total V.C. Andrews territory (Flowers in the Attic, Petals on the Wind, etc., etc)!! And hey, Tricia first makes her pent-up desire known in an ... attic of sorts.

The Sonny/Tricia relationship SLIGHTLY reminded me of that Brady Bunch episode where Greg and Marcia are fighting over who gets the attic for their new bedroom. There's definitely chemisty in that scene (where Greg and Marcia are sitting on the bed, when they're arguing, etc.). Years later Barry Williams (Greg) wrote in "Growing Up Brady" that the attic episode was filmed during the height of his courtship of Maureen McCormack (Marcia).

And the incest itself: If my brother casually strolled into my room and said I was the most beautiful girl in the entire world, before I kicked him out I would've asked him if he was drunk (well, I guess Sonny kind of was "drunk" ... drunk with possession, right?). Anyway, then Sonny tells her that they're going to play the photographer/famous model game (at that point, Sonny could've told her that they were going to play doctor, and I don't think Tricia would've batted an eye). I think (at least I hope) that any other sister would've told their brother to take it someplace else. Not Trish ... she immediately scambles up onto the bed ... and obediently takes her nightgown off. Finally she tells Sonny that she's had enough but then he produces ... the PANTIES. Anyone else (and again I'm hoping here) would've been like, "You sick mother f'er! MOM!! DAD!! GET IN HERE!!" But of course Tricia is like, "They're my panties. Why do you have my panties? Why?"

And I also just noticed the Jim Morrison poster on Sonny's bedroom wall. Not to drag Jim into this, but I just thought of The Doors song "The End". I THINK one of the lyrics is kind of like: "He paid a visit to his sister and then he ..." Right?

"FRA-GEE-LAY ... it must be Italian!"
"I think that says 'fragile', honey."

im a layman but here goes. when the father smacks around the mother at the beginning she looks mean and says something about going to kill him.it seemed out of character. im thinking the house has killed teir "id ". that part of your brain that has base urges and th "ego" keeps things in check. im saying that is why the sister gave in.all the people in that house were affected

I would of done her flipped her over and done her again.

i HATED the incest scenes in the movie. me and my friends were watching it and kept justifying over and over "THEY'RE BROTHER AND SISTER!! WHAT THE HELL!!!!!!" and i still to this day can't believe how it was portrayed, really twisted and sick. ugh, haha.

I notice there was an Italian director. The Americans seem to react much more strongly to incest than Europeans. For instance, in Britain it is not unheard of for siblings to have sexual relationships - probably because it was common for royal families to engage in incest to maintain 'pure blood'. It is quite rife in Wales and Yorkshire.

I can only assume you have some evidence for such outrageous remarks. By the way, i live in Scotland so it's not like i'm having to defend where i live or anything. But how do you know, did you poll 100 Welsh people and asked if they committed incest. Quite frankly, if someone said incest to me, i think of America's deep south and the deliverance music plays in my head. That doesn't make it so though.

Agreed, Persephone 2000.
I had not noticed how much they're hanging all over and each other and giggling. If I didn't know they were siblings, I would have sworn they were a couple!
Maybe the sister didn't resist his advances because she had been harboring those forbidden incest lusts
all along.
Not to be jugmental, but I just can't imagine getting "lusty" for a blood-related brother. I wonder if anyone has ever written any true-life literature from that point of view....? ;)

Also, how was Trish killed again? I'm drawing a blank here...

reply

Coming from the UK I gotta say that that is the most dumbass post I have ever seen on IMDB. In the UK much the same as the rest of the world incest is frowned upon and indeed illegal... get over your stereotypes.

It might not be illegal in Germany for much longer:

It isn't illegal in Sweden, France, Belgium and the Netherland etc...these are the most civilized countries in Europe. Makes you think doesn't it?

Personally, I really don't care about what people do behind bedroom doors as long as it doesn't actually hurt anyone (I am discounting bondage as it doesn't really ''hurt'' masochists!) and isn't in my face.

Don't talk such utter crap. I'm Welsh and I would never dream of letting any of my brothers see me undress let alone go so far as to have sex with any of them and my father would have beaten the crap out of them for the suggestion.
Wnhere exactly do you hail from and how many of these people allegedly involved in sexual relationships do you know? I would also refer you to the Sexual Offences Act 2003, not sure which section but you can read the whole thing at www.opsi.gov.uk. Incest is illegal in Britain and most certainly not the norm.

reply

Er Excuse me L0GAN5 but where do you get your information? Incest not unheard of in Britain? Particularly Wales and Yorkshire? I strongly suspect you don't have facts in front of you.

I don't think this scene is anything to do with an Italian director. I think the clues are in the film when Trish tells the priest in confession that [Sonny] does it to hurt God.

I would guess there was an unnatural relationship between the two because of the violent and psychological abuse they suffered at the hands of their father. They had to be closer and support each other more than a normal brother and sister would. Both may have suffered serious mental and emotional damage and may have had a different view of morality and what REALLY mattered to them.

Taking that point on, the possessed Sonny gives in to his more dark desires and the (demon?) encourages him to do anything that is contrary to church teachings. This doesn't entirely explain why Trish is so compliant with the idea. Maybe it is the result of the physical abuse that has altered her perspective so much. Or maybe if she says no to Sonny she fears she will be alone and no longer have his protection or at least his moral support.

Anyway, it's just a film so it's not real.

But seriously, Britain is about as far from a hot bed of incest as any country in the world.

reply

umm....its a movie!!! there not brother and sister in real life..now if it was real life, then that would be ****in nasty and sick...but its not, it was movie, but the thought of it is gross..the scene wasnt nasty

reply

The movie was pretty average, didn't do much for me. But to be honest, I thought the scenes with Trish and Sonny were pretty hot! Is it just me, or what?

reply

You know, Sonny actually had an excuse for the whole incest thing. I mean, he was possessed by a demon and all. Sure, earlier in the movie their was some weird flirting going on, but nothing really out there.

But the girl, Trish? She wasn't possessed by anything but hormones. And even after they did it, she went up to his room and was like 'I'm not ashamed of what we did, and you shouldn't be either.'

I was just waiting for her to do, 'lets do it again.'

Weird....funny, and kinda interesting, but still weird.

I would have been dissapointed if he DIDN'T molest his sister... I felt like it was leading to that and if they didn't do it, all the sexual tention between them would have been a waste.

reply

God,me too! I'm twisted enough to admit it's the reason I rented it in the first place. now before you guys start screaming at me, let me explain. I was all of 12 when the flick first came out and, not surprisingly,I didn't have a snowball's chance in Hades to see it back then. lucky, or unlucky, enough for me, I happened to buy the reprint of Hans Holzer's book Murder In Amyityvlle which featured on the front cover, the house glowing in blue light- with the words Amityville 2: The Possession across it's front. yeah, baby, I grabbed it with both hands! delightedly, for me, it also has some stills of the movie in it. so, for 2 years, I knew full well there was going to be an incestuous scene. as to the movie, I'm still wondering if that's how Jack Magner and Diane Franklin where directed to act or, instead, where they just goofing around and those early scenes together just happened to be the best ones of the bunch?!?!? either way, works for me!
Tina

PS: as to people not realising what was about to happen, I find That hard to believe 'cause of how my, 93 year old Grandma reacted when she saw it for the first time. during the bedroom " introduction" she,LMAO, turned to me and said," Tina, what's going on with all the flirting?"

reply

Not into incest but yeah that girl was hot.
