Interesting social commentary.


This movie is anti-hippie without being too preachy about it. However, judging by his interviews, I'm not convinced that the writer/director Jack Sholder is a conservative. Maybe he just hates hippies (at least at that time)?

That's an unbalanced interpretation since the flick pokes fun at several types and not just counterculture people, such as the "progressive" head of the asylum (Pleasance), the insane Christian minister (Landau), the military Vet (Palance) and the obese child-molester (Erland Van Lidth).

The band at the nightclub was a real-life band, The Sic F*cks, playing their actual songs. So the director wasn't exactly criticizing them & their fans, but simply showing reality.
