Why does this movie get 5.5 out of 10 stars?

This movie is awesome. Great cast! I had seen pieces of this movie in "Terror in the Aisles". The part where they back over the bicycle mailman. That is hysterical. "The hat. I want the hat." I never knew the title. I saw this on a Hollywood video shelf years ago and thought I'd rent it. It was the same movie featured in "Terror in the Aisles". Hooray! Donald Pleasance toking on Oregon sinsemilla. What a psychologist!

Yes this movie rocks. I saw it one night after seeing one of the worst movies ever (the forgotten). It was on IFC and i got so sucked into it, unlike other mindless 80s horror movies, because this movie had something different, a quality that makes you feel like youre traped inside that house with them. I dont really know if id feel the same way if i saw the film again, but thats exactly how i felt when i did see it.

Your typical movie audience can't appreciate the slasher film. Most won't even bother watching them. So for this kind of film on these boards, 5.5 isn't a bad score.

Terror in the Aisles was also the first time I saw anything from Alone in the Dark...Terror aired on one of the main networks back in the 80's and the delivery man scene was one of the scenes that always stood out to me. It's still one of my favorite scenes from the film itself.

I found "Alone In The Dark" by way of something they used to show on TV here called "Sci-Fi Saturday" when I was but a wee leetle one. On Channel 27 every Saturday, there would be nothing but horror, sci-fi, and fantasy from 1 PM to 7 PM, and it was what I looked forward to every weekend. I remember the exact day it came on, because "Spookies" was on right after it in the 3 PM to 5 PM time slot. It's weird the things I remember when so many later things I've forgotten and I'm not even old yet!

Great cast and a few great scenes, but unfortunately the whole is less than the sum of its parts. This film starts out strong, but then it just sort of sits there. I gave it 6/10.
