The Survival Syndrome (season 2 episode 7) Huge goof

I'm loving watching this series again on Quest in the UK. But the whole premise of this episode is flawed.

1) Hooker is under suspicion of shooting a suspect and a TV crew capture the incident.

2) Ballistics are not available as the suspect is in critical condition and the slug can't be removed.

However, the TV report (and the facts) both say that the suspect was shot in the back. As the TV footage clearly shows the suspect was running towards Hooker, how can he possibly be under suspicion? It's quite laughable that an entire police force and the media would miss that most basic of facts!

Not to mention they later have the opportunity to retrieve that slug, which is never mentioned again.

It's still fun catching up on the large number of episodes I missed first time round despite such a glaring mistake.

No, not at all. To the media, police = bad. Ignoring the facts advances their story. Once media start howling, brass follow along.

I just watched this ep (on Quest!) the other night so it's still fresh in my mind. The shooting itself takes place off camera, you can only see Hooker, not the kid and nobody saw a gun in the truck so all they know is Hooker fired his gun and the kid got shot. He might have turned around to run away from the gun wielding cop and been shot in the back by Hooker - they make the point that the witness statements all differ as to exactly what happened.

When they recover the bullet at autopsy, they mention that it's been so badly deformed by hitting the kid's spinal vertebrae that ballistics cannot perform the necessary tests on it to prove it *wasn't* fired from Hooker's gun.

I think somebody's had tee many martoonies!
