Patrol cars always changing

During shots of driving, whether it's during a pursuit or routine driving the models of patrol cars constantly change. In one shot Ramano and Hooker are in a 1980 Dodge St. Regis and in the next shot about a 77 Dodge Monaco. It's really obvious. Completely diferent body styles. Front ends don't even look the same. I also notice that the rear view mirrors are removed, I'm sure for filming purposes. Most of the vehicles all have California Exempt plates, however the other day Hooker was in a solo pursuit and the St. Regis he was driving had a front passenger car plate.

It gets even worse when the car changes during a pursuit- the aforementioned two models were used in the episode I watched last night when they were chasing a Camaro.

Is that the same episode where they said they were after a red Dodge? The helicopter found it, but now it was a Camaro with the black guy driving. Then when it crashed into the wrecking yard it was a red Dodge Charger. The patrol car changed from a Monaco to a St Regis about 3 times during that pursuit as well. Then after the capture, they showed a close up of the Radio in Corrigan's car and the dispatched told him to meet 4adam30 on tach 2. The radio channel was already on channel 2. Am I analyizing this too much? Just seems like such obvious mistakes and I don't understand why they did it that way.

It may have been, I was just commenting on the Camaro portion. I think the Charger was the first get away car they used in that episode, but I'm not sure.

As to the radio, I've noticed they never use the channel changing knob on the circa-70's Motorola radios in their cars when they go to a different frequency, so you're not the only one that has analyzed it.

I saw the same Camaro that changes into a Dodge Charger, when it wrecks into a wrecking yard on two occaisions. The St. Regis's were the new models that were used by police in 1979 and 1980, so I guess they wanted to wreck the older cars more often. The newest model they used was the light blue Dodge Diplomat (Unmarked) that Hooker drove frequently the last two seasons. That model was used by police agencies from 1981 until discontinued after 1989. They never made it as patrol cars on Hooker. I guess they were too new.
