This show has taught me . . .
That all cadets enrolled in the Police Academy do is run. That Police Academy looks more like the Marines. Everytime they show the outside of it, the cadets are doing nothing but running.

shareYou must have missed the episodes where they are doing jumping jacks, and the episode where they are practicing their karate take-down moves!
shareAnd shooting!! Hell do they do gunnery practice a lot. Then again, in the UK we only have 2 in 100 police officers armed so maybe its more realistic than I think.
shareYes we run, you need to be in shape, need to be fit. As a LAPD officer for 12 years I have seen the affects of not being in shape. If you are not in shape, some big motherfu**er is going to kill you. Yes at some points in the film you see cadets running but not in class room we do not want to let you see what we do behind closed doors so our secrets get out
shareAs a Baltimore Police Officer, I must concur. Even the image that fitness gives is a matter of officer safety. If they look at you and think "This guy can take care of himself," they will be less likely to try you. I'm out of the academy, but every single day has some weights/martial arts (hapkido)/yoga/stair climbing.
I watched TJ Hooker as a kid, and after a BA, an MA, and a Black Belt I became a cop. Here's to Hooker.
The MermanAtor
-Uh Gil? Theres no eating in group-
That makes sense. And yet Hooker's prancing as he runs must be a "West Coast Thing."
