Dan Gilvezan, in my opinion, has been the best Spider-Man!

I think he captured the Peter Parker/Spider-Man character better than anyone. His Spider-Man was a real smartass - unlike the live action films. I don't think the films or recent animated shows have captured that part of the character.

Another aspect of the character not getting its due from the Tobey Maguire movies is his gadget making. The excuse for this has been the Maguire Spider-Man's natural web-spinning ability, but in the comicbooks web shooters haven't been the only machines Peter Parker has whipped up to help with his adventures.

Man, I completely agree. Reading the comics I always heard dan's voice. To me spider man was the cool smart alec bugs bunny type. tobey sucks.

Dan Gilvezan was a good Spidey but he was also portraying 'Bumble Bee' on Transformers around the same time. He made no effort to make the two characters sound different from one another and if I'm not misatken he also was voicing a character on the G.I. Joe TV series (also around the same time).

In the 1986 season he played Slipstream. The pilot of the Conquest X-30.

He was terrific as Spider-Man's voice and played the role perfectly

This is THE voice I think of when I think of Spidey (not that I just sit around thinkin about Spidey, but you know..). It fit so perfectly with the original Lee/Ditko portrayal of the character, and into the mid 80s

Or maybe not, lol.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oAkyqtoZTzQ

Trueness, I always hear Dan's voice while reading Spidey comics or Christopher Daniel Barnes from the 90s show.

Same here, Dan and Christopher Daniel Barnes is what i think of Spider-Man in voices

Watching SMaHAF was my first significant exposure to Spider-Man so I'll admit Dan's voice was the most memorable. However, since I've heard Ted Schwartz's performance in the solo 81 'Spider-Man' series I'm gonna have to go with Ted's portrayal being the best of the two. It could be the writing or the voice direction that caused them to be different but either way I look at it Ted's version was the best.
Watch a few episodes of each series and judge for yourself.
