5 favorite episodes from Season 6?

Season 6 was another solid year for the show. I think there were two truly great episodes that were clearly at the top for the season, and after that a lot of good-to-very good ones, with a small dash of weak ones.

My top 5:

1) "Take Me To Your Loudon": The guests at a Halloween party at the Stratford believe that Martians are invading their town. I can't think of any single episode from any sitcom that had as many genuinely funny lines as this one. A true classic.

2) "Newsstruck": Michael is appointed as the news producer at the station, and starts to actually become interested in important issues. Probably Peter Scolari's best performance on the show. The scene where he meets the news staff for the first time is one of my favorites ("I want you to run out on to the set!")

3) "A Friendship That Will Last a Lunchtime": Buffy Denver returns and becomes friends with Stephanie. I love how horrified Dick becomes at the thought of Buffy always visiting the inn.

4) "Telethon Man": Dick hosts a telethon to raise money to save the TV station. Unfortunately we never got to see Newhart play Dick Loudon drunk, but seeing him play Dick delirious from lack of sleep was just as good.

5) "Courtin' Disaster": The main storyline was about George dating a woman with a jealous ex, but the episode was stolen by a great performance from a pre-Seinfeld Jason Alexander as a guest constantly trying to tip the staff for better service.

My pick for worst episode of the season:

"The Gleeless Club": The only thing remotely amusing in this episode was the part about Dick being the teachers pet, everything else seemed kind of lame and unmemorable. The secondary storyline about Michael and Stephanie planning their dream house didn't add much either.

What would be your choices?

1. The Buck Stops Here- Dick accidentally hits the town's lucky great white buck with his car and becomes a pariah. Bill Maher guest stars as a guest at the inn that's smitten with Stephanie.
2. Prima Daryl- Larry finds out he's not the oldest bro which changes the family dynamics.
3. Take Me to your Louden- agree with OP that it's a great episode.
4. The Schifflet episode-don't have the title, but it was the rare one centering totally on Officer Schifflet.
5. Midsummer's Night Dream- focusing on the crazy dreams of key cast members.

Season 6 was the last great year for the show (seasons 3-6 are practically perfect).

My favorite season 6 episodes are:

"Laugh at My Wife Please"...
Mary Frann gets an episode where she isn't supporting everyone else. I thought she did great, and this is my favorite episode of season 6.

"A Friendship That Will Last a Lunchtime"...
narcissism overload, but pure comedy gold. Love this one.

"The Buck Stops Here"...a good episode involving the whole town.

"Inn This Corner"...Dick and Joanna deal with another business owner. This one reminds me of the 'Cheers' episodes where Sam and the gang compete with a rival bar.

"Draw Partner"...Eileen Brennan is so good as the illustrator that sticks in Dick's craw she was invited back to do another episode.

Honorable mentions:

"Prima Darryl"...a birth order snafu causes an identity crisis for Darryl.

"Support Your Local Shifflet"...
everyone's favorite sheriff goes to work at the inn.

1) Take Me To Your Loudon
A hilarious parody of Orson Welles'War Of The Worlds broadcast. Not only one of the best of this series but one of the best sitcom episodes ever. The townsfolk are hysterical and Larry,Daryl and Daryl have their funniest introduction ever.

2) Laugh At My Wife Please
Mary Frann is wonderful in this one as Dick gives Joanna a supposedly funny speech to deliver. A funny subplot has George minding the Daryls while Larry is away. Funniest scene is when they get behind George to follow him.

3) A Friendship That Will Last A Lunchtime
Julie Brown returns as overly perky Buffy Denver. She has a great line when Dick tells feuding Buffy and Stephanie that he wants them to make up, and she says "He wants to watch us put on makeup? Is Dickie a freakazoid?"

4) The Buck Stops Here
Another great townsfolk episode as Dick runs over their good luck charm. Funniest scene is Dick doing The Dance Of The Wood Nymph.

5) Newsstruck
A great showcase for Peter Scolari. Shallow and uninformed Michael has to produce the news and briefly gets interested in current events. He says to Dick "Did you know there were 2 World Wars?" LOL!
