Should Michael and Bonnie REALLY have gotten together?

I have seen the scenario of Michael and Bonnie marrying each other all over the place, from fanfiction, to skits written around them on Tumblr of all things; you could say the producers were TRYING to imply they liked each other in the first season, but that ultimately fizzled and she was replaced with April, whom Michael was never shown to be more than just good friends with; then it looked as if the producers were attempting something when she came back in season 3, but this was ultimately dropped; and by the time season 4 came around it was obvious they were just friends and nothing would come of it.

So, should they have paired up? Are were they better off as friends?
