DVD music

Hey, does anyone know whether the Knight Rider region 1 DVD releases suffer the same music replacement issues as all the other R1 TV releases (tour of duty, hunter, fall guy, quantum leap, equalizer, etc) where they've swapped original music tracks for generic rubbish? I've been buying R2 releases, as aside from Quantum leap season 4, they're all 100 percent original.

I haven't watched my DVDs of the first season of KR in a long time, but my guess would be no. When I used to watch this show in my 20's, I remember getting angry because for most of the music, they used singers that recorded songs that tried to sound like the versions that were hits. Some came close, but others were awful. My mom, who worked in radio and TV in a minor way, said it was probably a royalties/copyright thing and they didn't want to lay out the bucks to use the 'real' music.

So unless the writers on the songs were also paid royalties, and had a problem with it, the songs should be the same ones used originally.

How sad, that you were not born in my time, nor I, in yours.

Knight Rider might not have had the music rights issues that other shows had mainly because whenever a popular song of the time was played on this show very rarely was it an original version but a cover close enough to the original as to not have to shell out royalties.

Some of the songs that were used in the original airings of the episodes, were covers, and most were quite close to the originals.

I do believe there were some original songs used too...

As I recall, the episode "K.I.T.T. vs K.A.R.R.", featured "Cruel Summer" and "Jump" by the original artists.

Quantum Leap

R1 releases of "Quantum Leap" upset many fans. The show was butchered for the DVD releases. Key pieces of music were clearly replaced. It was so obvious it was sickening.

where they've swapped original music tracks for generic rubbish?

From what I could tell, there was no "generic rubbish" inserted into any of the episodes for the R1 DVD releases, at least for nothing that was featured prominently. All of the original music that was featured in the original airings of the episodes, like the Driving Montages, seemed to still be there and were the same.

Worst Case Scenario... a very close cover was used. Nothing like what happened with "Quantum Leap"

"K.I.T.T. vs K.A.R.R.", one of my favorite episodes, seemed like the original airing to me.

The songs in the dvd are covers, I don't know if they were covers in the original episodes or not though.

I believe the only songs replaced were the ones originally performed by Prince.
