Suspension of disbelief

I'm all for suspension of disbelief. I mean, if you nitpick at every detail in every movie or tv-show, it would ruin a lot of fun.
But Knight rider is really stretching it ... often! I loved the show when I was a kid, and I still love KITT (awesomeness!) but in rewatching the show... I lost count how often I cringe. Example from recently watched episode 'Deadly Maneuvers'.

"I'm headed in that direction anyway. Can I give you a lift?"

"Oh yes, sure I don't mind a lift from a complete stranger. While we're at it, why don't I introduce you to my dad? He's such a great person after all.
Hmm, major Sanderson wants me to talk to general Duncton. Why don't you acompany me on a military base to the office of a general to see what's up? I'm sure he won't mind telling me personal news in front of a civilian.
Damn, my dad is dead! Well, I know you've only known me for a couple of hours, but you're here anyway so why don't you stay and attend my dad's funeral? In the mean time, you can follow your tingling spidy-sense and snoop around to see if something is 'off'."

I mean, really?

That's what made KNIGHT RIDER great! When he wasn't on official Foundation business Michael was always helping some poor civilians with problems. And it was always a pretty chick/damsel in distress. Never a guy!

Connery, Moore, and Brosnan! Accept NO substitutes!

UGH, I really have to look around the Hoff. There was only 1 thing that made Knight Rider great and that was KITT :-D

It's hard to imagine accepting a ride from a strange but we've to remember these were different times and people didn't worry as much from being kidnapped.

Seriously? In a show that revolves around a talking car, with a mind of it's own, that can jump over things with no ramp, can scan through walls and see faces, can shoot lasers, jam signals, disable car engines, can pull things up on screen from anywhere with no camera (Star Trek style), and can find everything out about people on an "internet" that didn't yet exist, your suspension of disbelief is halted by someone accepting a ride from a stranger??? Wow. Just wow.

I only just brushed the surface regarding all the impossible things KITT could do, but a stranger getting a ride is just too much to believe. Not much shocks me, but this post is what challenges my suspension of disbelief.

I am surprised that according to some the times have changed as much that nowadays people are afraid to accept a ride from a stranger? So people these days are not hitchhiking anymore or what. Where the world would come to if there was no risk taking, all just snuggling to comfort zones, their safe spaces? Is that what life is about. I gather the original post on this thread might be a little reflection of some people's mentality today perhaps.

I disagree. This was normal behavior in the 80s
