Just started watching it (on dvd). And I noticed that as the family's passports are being checked Jenifer is smiling & Malory is posing in their passport pics. It's frowned upon to smile or pose for passport photos now. Was it the same back then ??

No. Not smiling for identification photos is fairly recent. I believe it's for the purpose of facial recognition software. I got my first passport in 1985 as a teenager and was told to smile.
