Does any know why Tracy Pollan (Ellen Reed) left the show? I was not crazy about how Ellen was just mentioned about going to another country after receiving a dancing scholarship resulting in the split with Alex. Interestingly, the real life Alex (Michael J. Fox) and the real life Ellen (Tracy Pollan) did end up together since 1988.

Ms. Pollan left because she wanted to spend more time with her then boyfriend, Kevin Bacon.
shareThe producers wanted to expand her role and she didn't wanted to commit - she wanted to do other things than playing the lead characters' girlfriend on a sitcom. They also asked her to return a year after she left. When she declined, they hired Courteney Cox.
shareI know right. When Ellen won that dance scholarship to that prestigious art school in Paris, I guess she just had to accept that scholarship.
