Alex's first scene at a train station with Ellen

I'm referring to the first scene where he drives her to the station but doesn't have the guts to tell her how he feels.

One thing I really like about this scene is how he finally levels the playing field, so to speak, after she had psychologically torn him apart back during their first meeting. And it came out in sudden bursts. "You called me insecure, but what about someone who at 18 years old runs off to get married because she's on her own for the first time and looking for something to cling to?"

There seemed to be this sudden sense of awe from the audience as they realized he had nailed it.

And then when she replied by saying he didn't know what he was talking about and their relationship was great, he quickly dismantled that claim. "Yeah, I'll bet it's a great relationship. It's so great you were kissing me during the dance."

Which led to her weak excuse, "you kissed me," which of course the audience knows is a lie, since she was kissing him back.

As an aside, when I first saw this episode years ago on Nick at Nite, I was blown away by the chemistry of Fox and Pollan, and I had no idea they were married in real life. I wonder if they were already subconsciously attracted to each other, even though they were in relationships with other people at the time. It's funny how similar reality is to the story, as both Alex and Ellen were in relationships before they got together in this pair of episodes. And apparently, Fox developed a crush on her when she told him off for making a rude comment during a rehearsal, much like Alex developed feelings for Ellen after she tore him down during their first meeting.
