What's the story behind that smug guy who...

... appears last in the opening credits?

You know the guy - Looks real smug as he raises his glass to the camera.

Who is he? And what's his story? Surely someone must know...

YOU WOULD BE SMUG TOO...IF EVERYBODY KNEW YOUR NAME. NOEMOJI

Sorry, cannot really answer your question either.
This interesting article explains the background of the intro-pictures.

Thanks, that was an interesting article even although it didn't really shed any further light on that "particularly self-satisified fellow"...

It's weird - searching on the internet, by the look of things, there's been a few quests to find out who he was. But unfortunately no result. As one person pointed out, the fact that it was a pre digital stock photo may make it a particularly hard task to track down.

Yes, some similar experiences by walking across the flea market.
Many old black-white photos are offered of people mostly well dressed.
But nobody can tell you anymore who exactly it was. πŸ˜žβ€‹
Of course their families knew but they're dust in the wind themselves or simply didn't care when their granny passed and they emptied her house.
Without going that far:
Last year checked my big photo-box and was hardly able to recall all names of my comrades from elementary school (we had been more than 30). Therefore now all 'my' photos got memos on the backside...whoever may be interested later.

Anyhow, needed to laugh about the young man in your "smug guy" costume (article).

The vanished hand on the women's shoulder (photoshopping) was funny also. πŸ™‚β€‹

Yeah, that was a good costume idea!

All my old photos are in my dad's attic. Haven't looked at them in years but I can imagine also struggling to name people...

It is funny though that the "smug" guy, being such an iconic image from a popular show, and yet nothing at all. As you said, lost to time.

reply

I don't think he's got smugface. I'm pretty sure it's drunkface.

Am I the only one who thinks that they chose old photos that kinda sorta look like the characters in the show? Overweight guy for George Wendt credit, attractive female for Kirstie Alley, young bartender for Woody's credit, etc.
