Episode 3.24 when Carla's old school friends visit the bar and at the end of the episode Carla is clearly drinking beer while very pregnant. Were the dangers of drinking while pregnant not known at the time?

I thought it was totally irresponsible of the producer/director to show this. Carla was an obnoxious, stupid woman.
Funny how things come full circle. We now know that drinking while pregnant isn't harmful to the baby.

I'm watching the show on dvd now and just saw that episode, it was only implied that she was drinking beer, she was holding beer a few times but didn't actually drink any.

Carla sits down with Norm & Cliff with 3 beers, cheers the men and takes a drink out of her own mug. I was wondering whether at the end of episode 24, was she bringing her old teacher 2 beers or was one for her? The next episode answered that question for me lol
Of course the dangers of drinking during pregnancy were known at that time. However, it was just a comedy show. Any woman stupid enough to take the behavior of a nasty character on a sitcom as some kind of example probably shouldn't be reproducing in the first place.
