Where is Anthony Andrews now?

I was absolutely thrilled by Andrews' acting in 'Brideshead'. Since I watched the series the first time, I've recognized both Bridey, Mr. Ryder, Irons (of course) and several others in other series or movies. But I've never seen Andrews since. Of course I checked out his record at IMDB, but I couldn't find anything I recognized in the list of his recent appears. Any ideas on where and why he has disappeared? Is he a type-cast, or was he simply not that good an actor?

He's still around, although he seems to working in the theatre more often (Unfortunate for me since I don't live in the UK). Why don't you check out his official website? http://www.anthony-andrews.com/ (I think)

A short while ago I saw a really awful Danielle Steel tele-movie called Jewels in which Andrews starred as a down-to-earth English duke who falls for an insipid American woman. He was ok but there's really no exuse for Danielle Steel's stories. Not exactly sure how long ago it was made - looked to be late eighties, or maybe the early nineties.

No, he didn't. Have another go, please?

Oh dear there are LOADS of brilliant work Anthony Andrews has done since Brideshead! I particularly recommend the movies "Ivanhoe" and "The Scarlet Pimpernel" both from 1982.
I also really liked "Haunted" from the mid 90s and "By the pricking of my thumbs" which came out last year.
Happy searching!

He does more theatre work these days. He is currently starring in a London West End theatre with Jenny Seagrove in Somerset Maugham's 'The Letter'.
Hopefully I will get a ticket to go and see it this weekend!

You are right about Andrews and his acting. The only things I shall add are that the version of "Ivanhoe" you cite aired in 1982 and that there is a later version starring Steve Waddington, Ciaran Hinds, Susan Lynch, and many other people that aired during April 1997.

I know that this is an old post, but I just had to reply. Anthony Andrews was absolutely lovely (I don't want to sound like a giggling 12 year girl, but, there you go) in both of these. He had a quality that Dirk Bogarde had on occasions - he seemed to be listening intently and actively to whomever he was speaking and giving them his undivided attention.

I have very seldom come across this in real life, but when you do, it is incredibly flattering and you feel as if you are charming. It must be a hard quality to show on screen.

Recognised Mr. Ryder? Sir John Gielgud would turn in his grave -- fancy anyone recognising little old him!

He was great! And sooooo handsome! ;)

Anthony Andrews played Ivanhoe in the eponymous film of the 1980's; he was also prominent in "The Scarlet Pimpernel" and a film about an unexploded bomb. Read the entry in Wikipedia for further information.

He's on stage a lot. Still handsome, still great.

Anthony Andrews has had a very distinguished career. Check out his IMDB page.

I watched the TV series "Danger: UXB" after BR and fancifully imagined it was a continuation of BR. Sebastian becomes a darling member of the bomb squad during WWII, so everything turns out all right!

Weirdly the 2012 responses haven't mentioned his appearance in Oscar-winning The King's Speech - he played Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin (though he seemed to me to look much more like Neville Chamberlain).

Yes he was great -- I wish his role had been bigger in TKS. He is still -- though he is no longer the beautiful blonde Sebastian Flyte -- a handsome guy, an exceptional actor with great charisma. I liked him in the Haunting film from the 90s as well. He's been my wife's crush for decades.
